Internet Security

Every time you use the internet you open your computer up to a range of potentially threatening risks. As the information which you are sending or receiving travels via any number of intermediary computers on it's way to or from you, there are many opportunities for your information to be eavesdropped on, or even copied. This poses a risk to passwords, credit card numbers, and other personal information.

Because of this, Internet Security has become a rapidly growing concern, and many guidelines, systems, and products have been developed (and are being improved on, and adapted all the time) to help combat these risks.

The topics in this section include:

  • Shop Online Safely
  • The Internet is an exciting tool that puts vast information at your fingertips. With a click of a mouse, it lets you buy an airline ticket, book a hotel, send flowers to a friend, or purchase your favorite stock. Good deals, convenience, and choice abound on the Internet. But before you use all the Internet has to offer, be “cyber“ smart to make the most of your online experience.

  • Security Products
  • With new threats to computer security and data integrity a regular feature of the evening news, a panoply of products that promise to detect, protect, and dis-infect are being marketed to consumers. Click here to find out more....

  • Avoiding Web Service Scams
  • Some unscrupulous companies, claiming to provide free web design and hosting services, are billing small businesses for services that were never authorized and have little value. Find out what to look out for, how to protect your business, and how to complain.

  • Protecting Against Identity Theft
  • How can I prevent identity theft from happening to me? As with any crime, you can't guarantee that you will never be a victim, but you can minimize your risk. By managing your personal information widely, cautiously and with an awareness of the issue, you can help guard against identity theft.
